Overview

Travel Zimbabwe from the north to the west to the south, including Harare, Kariba, Mana Pools, Matobo, and Hwange.

This tour comprises a wonderful mix of wildlife viewing, spectacular landscapes, and Zimbabwean history. Between Hwange, Chobe, Kariba, Mana Pools, and Matobo Game Park, you’ll enjoy a complete safari experience, with hundreds of species of animals and birds on offer.

ITINERARY 13 DAYS

DAY 01

HARARE

After you arrive at Harare international Airport, you’ll be met by a Batoka Safaris team member, and then transferred to Rainbow Towers Hotel to check in.

Later we’ll take you on a tour of the City of Harare – the city center, downtown, suburbs, markets and historical places. The tour takes 2 hours.

After a busy first day, you’ll return to the hotel for dinner and good rest.

Day 02

HARARE TO KARIBA

After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll make the trip up to Lake Kariba, north of Harare.
The journey is approximately 366km and takes a maximum of 5 hours.

After the trip, we’ll check you in at Caribbea Bay Resort, situated right on the shores of the lake.

At 16h00 we’ll pick you up from the hotel for a sunset cruise on Lake Kariba (the biggest man-made lake in the world at the time of its construction in the late 1950s).

The cruise takes 2 hours and snacks and a cash bar are onboard.

After that, we’ll return you to the Hotel for dinner.

Day 03

A DAY ON KARIBA

After a fresh, delicious breakfast, you’ll embark on a full-day tour of Lake Kariba, starting with a 30km boat transfer across the lake to Matusadona National Park.

The tour includes a game drive and game walk, as well as lunch.

After the tour you’ll be transferred back by lake and dropped off at your hotel for dinner.

Day 04

KARIBA AND MANA POOLS

Your Kariba highlights tour gets an early start at 07h30. We’ll pick up from the hotel and on to visit the Lake’s dam Wall and the Kariba observation point.

After the tour, we’ll depart for Harare by road. The trip is approx 366km, and will take a maximum of 5 hours.

Check in at the Rainbow Towers for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

Day 05

HARARE/MASVINGO

At 07h30, we’ll depart Nyanga for Great Zimbabwe. We’ll cover 352km, so this trip takes about 4hrs 30min.

We’ll check in at the Lodge At The Ancient City, close to the ruins. After that, we’ll take a tour of the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, which lasts about 3hrs. We’ll explore the Hill Complex, the museum, and the Great Enclosure.

After a long, adventurous day, we’ll return to the hotel for dinner, a peaceful night’s sleep, and delicious breakfast in the morning.

Day 06

MASVINGO/MATOBO

After breakfast, we’ll depart by road to Matobo Hills via Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe after Harare. The journey is approx. 320km and takes 4hrs 30min or less.
When we arrive, we’ll have time to tour the city.

After our visit to the city, we’ll proceed to Matobo Hills and check in at the Matobo Hills Lodge for the night, including dinner and breakfast the next morning.

Day 07

MATOBO

We’ll spend a full day in the Matobo hills, including lunch and dinner.

We’ll go on a game drive in the Matobo Game Park and rhino trail, and you can choose to visit the Recreational park. Please note that entrance to the grave of Cecil John Rhodes Grave entry is $10).

We’ll spend another night at the Matobo Hills Lodge.

Day 08

MATOBO/HWANGE

After breakfast at the lodge, we’ll depart by road to Hwange National Park via Bulawayo city. The trip is 321km, and will take about 4hrs 30min.

Upon arrival in Hwange we’ll check in at Hwange Safari Lodge, which is a full-board experience.

Day 09

HWANGE

At 06h00 we’ll go for a bright and early morning game drive through Hwange National Park. The drive takes 3hrs and includes morning tea and biscuits.

Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest National Park. The park encapsulates 14,600 square kilometers of unspoiled wilderness. Affectionately referred to by many as a “wildlife wonderland”, Hwange National Park is home to 107 species of animals and over 400 species of birds. It supports a large number of rhino, antelope, buffalo, zebra and giraffe, some of which are a veritable feast for the big cats and scavengers who roam the area in a ceaseless search for prey. It is also one of the world’s largest elephant sanctuaries – elephant can be seen in herds of one hundred or more, following the ancient migration routes from one waterhole to the next. See the lion, leopard, kudu, and wildebeest amongst a huge variety of Wildlife.

We’ll return to the Lodge for Lunch, and then head out again for an afternoon game drive.

After a day of exciting game viewing, we’ll return to the Hwange Safari Lodge for Dinner and a good night’s rest.

Day 10

HWANGE/VICTORIA FALLS

After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Victoria Falls by road, a trip of 185km that takes about 2hrs.
When we arrive in Victoria Falls we’ll check in at the Azambezi River Lodge. Then it’s time to relax until the afternoon.

At 16h00, we’ll pick you up and set out on a Sunset Cruise. The cruise takes 2 hours and drinks and snacks are served onboard.

After the cruise we’ll drop you off at the hotel.

Day 11

VICTORIA FALLS

At 08h30, after breakfast, we’ll take you on a guided tour of Victoria Falls!

Our first stop will be at the “Big Tree”, an ancient Baobab some 16 meters in girth. The tour proper will kick with an explanation of the geology of the Victoria Falls. We’ll then take you on an extensive tour, from Livingstone View to the Devil’s Cataract, on to the Main Falls, past the Rainbow Falls and finally to Danger Point. We’ll cover about 2km of ground during the tour.

After the tour we’ll drop you at your hotel and there are several optional tours available in the afternoon.

At 19h00 we’ll meet to experience food in a festive and traditional setting – Boma Dinner at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.

After the Boma Dinner, we’ll return you to your hotel.

Day 12

VICTORIA FALLS/BOTSWANA

After early breakfast, we’ll depart at 07h30 for our Chobe day trip.

Not only does the Zambezi River form the borders of 4 countries here (Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia) but this is also the location of one of Africa’s finest natural game reserves – the Chobe National Park. The added presence of the equally intriguing Chobe River (in one season the water flows downstream and in the other it flows upstream) brings a myriad of game and rare bird species to this natural wilderness.

The Park boasts the Big Five and the river teems with hippos and crocodiles which can be viewed both from boats and safari vehicles. It is to this “animal paradise” that participants will be taken after an early breakfast at the hotel. After an hour’s drive through the Zambezi National Park, quick border formalities are carried out into Botswana before proceeding into the national park. Chobe River cruises and Game drives have to be one of the finest game viewing experiences in Africa. With over 80 000 elephant in the park alone they are a very frequent sighting. Hippo, water birds, buffalo, crocodile and puku are also viewed from the river. Lunch is served at Chobe Safari Lodge.

After a big day of safari adventure, you’ll be transferred back to Victoria Falls and dropped off at the Azambezi River Lodge for another restful night.

Day 13

DEPARTURE

Sadly, our journey has come to an end, but we hope you’ve enjoyed every moment of it. You’ll be transferred from the hotel to Victoria Falls Airport for your home-bound flight.
